The other woman turned to him, flicking something off of his blazer. She was dripping in diamonds, though the rest of her was plain. He looked at her, annoyed, but she remained unruffled. Possible girlfriend? I wondered. No, too old.

“Anyways Mara, I wanted to introduce you to Helena Sylvester here. She’s planning a birthday party, and I told her that she simply must have you plan it.”

I widened my eyes. Even I’d heard of the Sylvester’s. Their family conglomerate had its corporate arms into anything and everything. Whatever you wore or touched or ate had at one point passed through a company owned by the Sylvester’s. Billionaire didn’t even begin to describe the amount of money each member of the family had.

“That’s right. After what I’ve seen today, I am convinced that only you will do,” said Helena. “I’ve got big plans for it this year.
